Gracious Phiri is a leading voice for libertarian principles in Southern Africa and a dedicated optometrist who seamlessly merges her healthcare expertise with a passion for individual freedom. As Regional Coordinator for African Students for Liberty (ASFL) in Southern Africa, and the Ladies of Liberty Alliance Regional Mentor, Africa, Gracious has spent six years advancing free-market ideas and advocating for liberty in her country and across Southern Africa. Her journey as a Prometheus Fellow, 2nd Cohort, and an alumnus of the International Academy for Leadership Friedrich Naumann Foundation has shaped her as a rising libertarian ideas advocate, leader, and public speaker. 

Gracious’s influence spans numerous initiatives. From her public speaking appearances on international stages like LibertyCon Africa 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, Young Leaders conference 2023 FNF in Berlin, Germany, to her roles in organizing and co-organizing impactful events like the Zimbabwe Leadership Forum, Zimbabwe Liberty Summit, and the Southern Africa Regional Conference 2023. Her work with African Students for Liberty, together with the SFL’s local coordinators, has established her as a powerful force in educating, developing, and empowering the next generation of leaders of liberty, a vision she is living and experiencing.

As an optometrist, Gracious is also deeply interested in mental health, healthcare policy, and building systems where access to care is driven by innovation and individual empowerment rather than overregulation. Her long-term and ongoing goal is to become Africa’s healthcare policy wonk who blends medical knowledge with principled advocacy to drive lasting, meaningful change.
